Review: Hoppipolla Café Yoga Shop, Lund

Hoppipolla Cafe $$
I was recommended this "super cute" (direct quote!) from a fellow Australian exchange student, who also happens to be vegan! She recommended the desserts here.

The cafe is jointly owned and operated by duo Nikki and Pier, who started it to create a cosy space to eat comfort food. The name hoppipolla comes from the Icelandic word for "jump in the puddle - and never grow up!" which the atmosphere of the cafe emulates 110%.

Address: Kiliansgatan 17, 223 50 Lund
Opening Hours:
  • Sunday - Thursday @ 08:30 - 20:00
  • Friday - Saturday @ 10:00 - 23:00
The exterior: you already get the cafe's "vibe" from the outside!

The Menu:

What I Ordered:
Unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet AHAHAA) I wasn't very hungry when I went to the cafe (I went at an awkward time, 15:30) so I skipped meals and went for cake and a drink instead. If I were to go back I'd definitely get the "Nam Nam"!
Raspberry and Chocolate Cake (all cakes are vegan) SEK32

The cake I ordered was a like a cross between a brownie and a fluffy sponge cake - I guess the closest comparison would be soft banana bread? Texture wise it was just a touch drier than what I was looking for (you kind of have to get a drink as well, can't just get cake which is a bit of a downside) and there was less raspberry than I expected but I could taste hints of it dotted throughout the whole slice. It was heated up as well and the vegan creme alongside it was the perfect complement. I was really in the mood for something like this and thoroughly enjoyed it but reflecting upon it now I'd only get cake if you're 110% in the mood and read to eat cake!
Chaga Latte (made from mushrooms that grow from birch trees in Northern Europe!) SEK45
I really enjoyed this drink! It has a mild and warm flavour that's kind of like nothing else I've ever tasted. The immediate taste is something that leans more towards savoury, but as you swallow it becomes a bit more sweet like what you'd expect from a latte. You get quite a large glass to enjoy it in as well. Honestly speaking the prices here aren't the best, SEK45 is more than I'd normally spend on a drink pretty much anywhere worldwide, (but I justify it this time for the experience, of course!)

The Decor: wonderfully cosy.
It's a pretty small shop and I was lucky to have the entire space to myself which probably added to my positive experience! I chose a seat with my back facing the front windows which was suuuuuuuper comfortable.

They even have plushie toys for you to sit next to and enjoy fika or a meal with which is utterly adorable! I chose to sit with this little friend:
Still a child at heart but how could I say no to the adorable peacock...

Here's the counter to pay the bill! I love how in every nook and cranny around the store there are fun little signs and decorations that make it interesting to look at and really get into the ambience.

 Always!

What a boost!

All in all I had a really pleasant experience at Hoppipolla! You'd go there to enjoy the cutesy warm atmosphere which gave my mood a much larger boost than I anticipated. Later I actually felt energised heading to SUSA rather than feeling a pit of dread open up AHAHAA

I think if you were to try anything off the menu you'd be best to go for the chaga latte or the matcha latte they offer. Despite the dessert being just what I needed to get me through the day, I'd probably come back for a meal next time when I'm in the mood to treat myself to something a little more fancy! Maybe after one of my finals is done :)
