I won't do a full review of the baked goods and sweet treats at Mormors bakery until I've sampled enough! (MUAHAHAA time to eat more delicious food!) I've been so curious to try semla, a traditional Swedish/Scandinavian dessert.
But just for starters, here's just a brief snapshot of what the bakery offers on its menu:
Savoury bread and other baked goods
Fika sweets - including chokladbollar (chocolate balls) punschrulle (punsch rolls) and kladdkaka!
I spy with my little eye something beginning with 'S'! Is it Semla?
I couldn't resist purchasing a semla here (even though I was meant to be "fasting" in preparation for my treat-myself Chinese New Year Eve dinner...) because I just happened to be in the area and it was cold out and basically, I just really wanted to try it AHAHAA
But wait: what is semla? In short, it's a cardamon-spiced wheat bun, topped with icing sugar and filled with a special sweet almond paste and whipped cream. You'd think that it'd be diabetes-inducing levels of sweet, but it's not like that at all! The whole dessert is light and fluffy and the bread and whipped cream are perfect complements to the smattering of almond paste. It's a surprisingly warming dessert - and was served on a heated plate - coupled with the well heated (and insulated!) comfy seating area, made it a 11/10 experience.
Here it is in all its glory: my semla! I devoured it! (SEK27)
