Getting Your Residence Permit @ The Swedish Migration Agency (Malmo)

I personally find the flag oddly patriotic, but I digress.

Swedish Migration Agency
Address: Agnesfridsvagen 111, Malmo

This is the second time I've tried trekking to Malmo for the residence permit! The simplest way to get there (from Sparta) is to walk to the Professorgatan bus stop (Side A towards Malmo) and catch the 170 bus yellow bus and alight at stop Malmo Jägersro.

Since I fully intended to explore Malmo a bit more I purchased a one-way ticket via the Skanetrafiken App (student price SEK 37.50 - but still, buses and trains are expensive in Sweden ;n;)

Here's the entrance to the Migration Agency! It can get confusing because there are other "Migrationsverket" signs about but this is the entrance. It's not facing the main road, if that helps you orient!

You can't take photos inside the Agency for security reasons, but the place is pretty easy to navigate. There's a check-in counter almost immediately in front of the entrance with one or two English speaking staff to assist. Note: there are bathrooms just to the right of the entrance!

For the Residence Permit:

  1. Enter your code or scan the barcode (in the confirmation email sent to you) at the check in counter, then you just take a seat and wait for your code to be displayed in green on the electronic boards around the centre.
  2. Once your code is flashing green, enter the glass doors (to the left of the entrance but you'll definitely see them) and head to your assigned booth.
  3. Give the server at the booth some form of ID - preferably a passport.
  4. You will need to give them your Swedish address and (guess)timated height in centimetres before they take your facial photo.
  5. Take your photo - urgh the important documents like passports or drivers licences always look bad but this one is particularly bad for me - and then scan your two index fingers (you've got to press on the scanning board rather than touch).
  6. Sign the electronic board, you'll receive your passport back and then you're done!
  7. Residence permit card will be sent to your address in 1 - 2 weeks. Easy!
