Sparta AF Bostader: The Kitchen (Part II) Weekly Cleaning + Recycling and Trash

(I'm finally publishing this part of my Living-in-Sparta hack. But it's done! Everything I wish I knew before I moved in I've put here).

In my corridor there is a Weekly Cleaning Schedule posted underneath the main noticeboard. Essentially, two rooms per week are in charge of everything listed below:
While it's encouraged that everyone cleans up after themselves and puts back dried cutlery/crockery, sometimes it doesn't always happen so on Sundays the Weekly Cleaning takes place so that the communal living space is maintained and the new week starts afresh.

Note: there is a "big" cleaning that takes place at the end of each semester (typically at the end of May / before Christmas) where every member of the corridor must participate to do a thorough clean of the communal space. This includes cleaning behind the ovens and sofa, as well as sorting through all communal items (usually cleaning equipment) and reorganising communal cupboards.

There's a cupboard located next to the kitchen where you will find all the cleaning supplies, specifically for the weekly cleaning:

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Buckets + mops
  • Floor detergent
  • Dustpan / brooms

These supplies are all for communal use, so if your room gets a bit dusty or just festy in general you can use the equipment here to clean and tidy up. All students who live in the corridor contribute SEK50 at the end of each semester which goes towards purchasing new cleaning supplies.

In the kitchen there are two cupboards with communal use items where you will find:
  • Detergent (dish-cleaning)
  • Floor / oven cleaning liquid
  • Foil / baking paper
  • Chalk (for the noticeboard)
  • Wiping cloths
  • Trash bags

Here are the main trash stations for all the recycling:
There are a lot! Which is excellent because they're all clearly labelled on the front with images of what you can and can't place in each bin.

There is also a recycle/trash station for bulkier items of more difficult items like light-bulbs, electronics and batteries here (from Sparta, turn left and walk straight. You can't miss it)
You can also collect the brow paper bags used for food-waste in this room too -

You can recycle almost anything in this room, including:
  • Small furniture
  • Carpets
  • Crockery / pots
  • Linen / bedding
And, as this handy wall reminds us: recycle batteries and electronic devices too. Sweden's recycling game is really on point!

It's assumed that anything left here can be taken by the tenants of Sparta if you want to collect it. Otherwise it's the perfect place to leave your own items when you move out or do a big clean.
