Skåne Travel: Foraging and Cooking Experience "Table in Ormanäs"

Swedish cottages in the woods!

Something I've always wanted to do was go foraging - and cook the food I've gathered myself. Not wanting to accidentally poison myself and die a horrible, painful death frothing at the mouth, I decided to go with this guided foraging and cooking experience, run by Visit Sweden.

Crossing the railroad

How to get there (via public transport):
  1. Catch train from Lund C to Höör Station.
  2. Change at Höör from train to bus, catch bus to Backagården.
  3. After alighting at Backagården, walk alongside the asphalt or bitumen path (Backagården should be on your left).
  4. Turn right at the crossroad and walk for approximately 1.5 km (winding road).
  5. When you reach the next crossing, turn right to Munkarp and cross the railroad.
  6. After the railroad, walk past two small houses located on both sides of the road. You should see a small red cottage to the right and a smaller cottage (also on the right) but a bit further into the forest.
  7. You should see a small red cottage on the left. Beyond this cottage there is a small gravel road to the left. Walk down this gravel path where you will reach the starting point of the experience at the end.
Gorgeous winding road through the Swedish woods!
Fresh hazelnuts!
Raspberry!! It was sweet and delicious!
We met the guide Camilla on a small path - she handed out wooden baskets with some scissors, knives and glass jars to store what we foraged in.

Camilla was wonderful at introducing us to different edible plants along the roads and showing us the best foraging spots for berries in the woods.
Jar of berries and bluebell flowers!
Pineapple tasting flower buds!

All participants got to experience gathering different ingredients - I tried picking stinging nettles (which hurt like hell but are delicious) before we reviewed our foraged foods and cooked together.

Oh yes, foraged chanterelle mushrooms... Literal gold <3
Our forest findings for the day!
Now welcome to the table! Here's the dining and cooking area, it's the perfect spot to bond over some foraged food in the Swedish woods :)
Gorgeous - you could even hang out in the Teepee tent and camp out for the night
The dining table
The cooking station!
Camilla provided some potatoes, parsnips and fillets of fish as well as the cooking equipment, washing station and seasoning. We all split up and just soaked it all in - the atmosphere, the aromas, and re-connecting with our food and the nature around us.

Oh daymn my plate <3

My plate close up - just look at those chanterelles and the bluebells!
It was an absolutely gorgeous summer afternoon in Skåne - it is definitely something worth doing over summer and autumn (that's the main mushroom season!).
