Kosmos K Cafe $$ - $$$
I adventured out myself to Copenhagen and had to visit this little cafe serving all-vegan food. Everything served is vegan and completely plant-based. It's a small, cosy shop - the seats are comfortable and there are a range of books and magazines you can have a read of. You order and pay at the counter, then the food is brought out to you, and you get your own cutlery and water from a station near the door. The staff speak impeccable English, and although initially seemingly reserved, they're very friendly and excitable when you chat to them about food and what the place offers.
Address: Sankt Peders Stræde 43, 1453 København, Denmark
Opening Hours:
- Monday - Friday @ 10:00 - 17:00
- Saturday @ 10:00 - 15:00
The Decor:
The ordering and paying counter + juice + dessert bar selection
The seating area - tables are shared but there is a bar-stool-esque set up by the window where I was
The paying counter
The Menu:
What I Ordered: (DKK89 = SEK124, ouch my wallet)
Today's pie - mushroom + cabbage. The alternative was 'Hokkaido Cheese'
Initially I only slightly heartbroken at the sight of the pie - because it looked so different to what I had in mind. I was expecting a full plate of food and one of those traditional-looking crust pies, and I was worried I'd be hungry!
But never fear - it all worked out in the end. The chickpea base of the pie was thicker and slightly more crusty? Than I normally like (but I'm a soft-cookie-bread-crust sort of person). The pie was a nice mild flavour (in my opinion anyway). What really made the meal were the sides - specifically the mixed salad. It was soooooooo good. I know I say that a lot about the food here but it was just. Hands down the best salad I've ever eaten. It was bright and flavourful, with a light sweet flavour thanks to the pears and pomegranate but had this unexpected taste which I honestly just can't describe because it's unlike anything else I've tried!
Pie close up: cabbage + mushroom, seasoned with fennel
Salad close up: made from (off the top of my head), fermented cabbage, pear, pomegranate seeds and dressed with their home-made yogurt, birch xylitol and other berries that couldn't be translated into English!
Takeaway: Vanilla Vegan Yogurt + Bonus!
The guy who basically runs the place and makes all the food is pro-environment and zero-waste! In order to spread the word of good food, sustainability and happiness, his policy is that if you order anything (e.g., yogurt, juice), and you return to order more with the same juice glass bottle or jar, you get 10% off. Same with takeaway orders - I was going to order another of the salad that came with the pie because it was just that good but decided to opt out for the yogurt instead (not gonna lie it was because the salad would have been DKK90 = SEK124).
I think the only downside to Kosmos K are the prices - Denmark is a little more expensive and some items were just too expensive for me. Otherwise, great food, warm atmosphere, best salads. 8.5/10
