One of my lovely friends introduced me to the "House of Tomato," or "Tomato House" - at first I was kind of stunned by how random it is, but once you get over it your world is opened to the most gorgeously quaint and enjoyable way to spend a few hours on the weekend.
It's essentially a shop close to Landskrona that sells all-tomato based goods - fresh tomatoes, chutney, tomato marmalade, ketchup, sun-dried tomatoes, tomato plants of course - among other edible goodies and flowering plants. It's a surprisingly large shop too - so there's plenty of things to look at and keep busy. There's tasting samples for the tomato marmalade and chickens at the back too!
There's a delightful eatery - Miss Alice på Tomatens Hus - real close to the Tomato House that also has a small shop too; selling teas, chutney, jams, honey and other condiments, plus hand towels among other home decor. My friend and I checked out the menu, but the only vegan items were the salad (lame) and soup, which we just didn't feel like. We are hungry vegans who want real food (joke).
And that's where Krogen på Wallåkra comes in!
The Decor - it was so peaceful and just the perfect ambience for a lunch in the woods on a rainy afternoon |
There was only one item on the menu which was vegan (clearly labelled "vegansk"), but my friend assured me this was real food AHAHA - there was complimentary bread (baked with basil, onion and olive oil from what I could taste, it was so wonderful!! I love bread!!)
The dish cost SEK145, but for the quality of food (and I suppose the general atmosphere of the restaurant, you'd expect the prices to be higher) it was well worth it.
Roasted chickpeas, "heart salad", fresh tomatoes atop a corn stew-like base? God it was delicious. I definitely hope to be back here!!
